Frequently asked
Why should I hire your services?
You should consider our services if you want studio quality portraits but aren’t able to visit a studio, or have a difficult time organising your family and would prefer this session in the comfort of your home. At home you can use the spaces and products you prefer, as well as various changes of clothes you want to try out. You should also consider our services when you want quality photography outdoors, mixing natural light with a studio lighting to achieve images that stand out.
Who chooses which images you edit?
Ultimately, you do. We take a lot of photos per session, with many being very similar, having only small differences in expressions or pose. From these images we select the best ones to present to you as previews, and from this selection you select those you wish us to retouch. Every package comes with a set number of images, but clients can ask for more to be retouched for an additional fee. Extra images can be requested when first selecting your images, or requested in the future.
Do you deliver images in colour and black and white?
While some photographers apply a filter to turn their colour images into black and white, we believe photos look much better when treated separately right from the start. This means that we shoot and edit both versions differently, and all retouching must be done twice; it’s for this reason that images delivered in black and white or colour, or both, count as individual images. It’s not the most efficient process, but it works for us.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR FOR MY SOLO SHOOT?
When having a session alone, you can wear whatever you want, as you don’t need to match anyone else. However, there are still considerations to observe to make the shoot as comfortable and productive as possible for you:
– Have more than one set of clothes (or various layers) for your shoot.
– Avoid accessories and colours that distract from you.
– Wear clothes that are comfortable, yet give an indication of your overall form.
– Consider neutral colours and styles, to ensure your photos age well.
– Avoid make-up, lotions or hair products that will cause highlights.
Can I have the RAW images?
For professional photographers, RAW images are the starting point of our work, but not an end product. These files are like a writer’s first draft, or a painters initial sketches, and as such, constitute unfinished work that can’t be delivered. We imagine some photographers may be happy to sell you RAW images for an additional fee, but at this point in time, this is not us. People come to us when they like what they see, so this must be what we deliver, not someone else’s interpretation of our vision.
what if I am camera shy?
Then you are perfect for us. Really. Photography can be many things, but ideally, when it comes to portraits, it should be a positive reflection of who we are. At Legado, our job is to help people bypass their discomfort and see themselves with kindness. We believe that everyone can make a good photograph, and this is possible by providing a low anxiety environment where you can be yourself. If unsure, come by for a chat, sit for a test shoot and see whether we are right for you.
What advice would you give clients?
Define the kind of photos you want and then find a photographer who can deliver that. Much like a pasta chef can probably make a decent Sushi, photographers can change styles to suit different clients, but the results are seldom truly exquisite. Find someone whose work you appreciate and let them do their thing. Also, don’t be afraid to talk price, especially if you can’t find their pricing anywhere. Some photographers like upselling clients, while others prefer to be upfront and get on with creating great photos.
What SHOULD WE WEAR FOR FAMILY SHOOTs?
People in family photos should generally match in style and appearance, so the attention of the viewer is on the people, not the clothes of any one individual. Coordinating this with your family is important, so please consider:
– Discuss how in/formal the group want to appear, and prepare accordingly.
– Casual clothes with neutral colours, such as Jeans and plain T-hirts work well.
– Avoid clothing with logos or visuals that distract.
– Have extra layers of clothing for people (especially kids) to have various looks.
– For outdoor shoots, ensure your clothes can manage the natural environment.
